Companions will not come w/ me

Postby MackyMac » Wed Apr 08, 2009 6:21 pm

I am having a problem with my companions coming with my character when traveling to a different spot on the same map via the "blue door transition point. So for example, at the Rose Inn going upstairs you click on the doorway to go upstairs. "Upstairs" is another section on the same map of the Inn's downstairs. My companions won't follow me, they stay downstairs.

This happens in any area where such a mode of moving between places on the same map is used.

I've had no problems with the previous version of EI with this. And I'm sure I've seen the same thing done in some other mods I've played recently and had no problem there either.

Any idea what is going on with this and how to make it work as it should?

Thanks

Did you try switching the companions to Stand Guard mode, then reverting to Follow mode, on the radial? That sometimes clears unusual engine behaviour.

Which version do you have?

I just did a test on the latest EI1 version 1.24 in the Rose Tavern - companions follow OK (end-to-end testing was fine, too).

Do you have the latest hakpak 3.04?

Yep, tried that, no dice

EI 1 1.24 (running NWN 1.69)

It just hit me that this issue was not consistent since I started playing this version. For example when I first went upstairs at the Rose Inn, Dunbert followed upstairs. I am pretty sure this only became an issue after we went on to Greystone. So that's kinda weird. I would say that makes me think I had a performance issue with my computer, but I had restarted my computer and the issue did not go away.

Blerg!... No, I have the 3.03. I could kick myself for missing that, but then... why would I kick myself, I love me and that would just be unpleasant.

Okay, I DL'd that hak and I'll run it later tonight and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Oh... and off the point... the Jarndyce and Jarndyce Bleak House reference totally rocked. The only thing better might be actually buying the Bleak House: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engl ... 986977.stm :P

Well gee wiz, wadda ya know... turns out paying attention to stuff and making sure one has downloaded all the necessary files is helpful after all. Who knew?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :D

I had the same problem (latest version) sometimes, but the other way around, my companions passed the door fine and I didn't, not before a moment.
I just had to click on the ground next to my feet et voilà!
I wasn't where the computer thought I was. And I just had to tell him.

But this also did happen in some other modules I played I think. It's not a specific to EI problem I suppose. Only it happens quite often here.
Would that be the only NWN Mac bug I know of after having be playing NWN for some years?

I know from other games, Macs and PCs don't seem to locate a specific point on the map the same way. In AoM for instance, Age of Mythology, there was a difference of a couple of millimetres.

And MackyMac is another of these  Mac guys, such as myself by the way.
So, maybe...
